Lummi Island

Being an inhabitant of the North West, it's quick drive to a ferry (15 minutes) and a 10 minutes ferry over, to get to Lummi Island for a day's visit. It ended up being quite the journey, as my sister dragged me out on what she promised was "just a quick hike", which turned out to be over an hour of constant up-hill hiking, before I made her turn around and head back to the car. Afterward, we headed to the shore line (the first two pictures) but it began raining as soon as we sat down.

Then we went to the willows, and ate prawns. Prawn that we had to crack ourselves! These little beasts were quite delicious, and the view looked out on the blue shaded islands. After the hike, it was relaxing to just sit and enjoy the scenery. It was my sister's last day after her quick visit, so I was glad to spend some time with her. No pictures of us are included, because we looked quite nasty after our hike, and I don't wish to scar any curious viewer out there.

Next post will be a "what-I-wore" post, and I've just been too lazy to start them yet.

Today I went over to my friends house (who lives about 30 minutes away, deep in the woods. Needless to say I got lost) and we decided to make macarons. It was both our first time making them, and I had heard the first attempt never turns out well. Above are our finished product, these messy, cracked creatures may not look too good, but they taste great!

My mother's side of the family is pure Italian. Cooking seems like a natural talent that everyone seems to have. When planning family gatherings the question is always "what are we eating?" my mom can cook and bake, whereas between my sister and I, she's the chief and I have the baking skills. This has made for a pretty good balance over the years. Anyway, I'll probably post more pictures of my cooking adventures in the future.

Fall 2010

Browsing style.com I stumbled upon Louis Vuitton and decided to look through their fall 2010 line. I was so happy to see the call back to fifties shapes and I'm loving the all-bearing cleavage. These three were my favorite pieces of the line, and I already recognized one of the looks in Vogue's July editorials.

Soniaaaaaa! How could anyone resist those lovely pom-pom headpieces? If I had the money I'd buy one and wear it every day. I also loved Sonia Rykiel's fall line this season. She played with menswear as models trotted down the runway wearing oversized (and I mean oversized) suits and trench coats held together with big safety pins. Above are my three favorites of the line, they're all sweater dresses but I think it works because she had such a range of them this season!

Vivienne Westwood. What can I say? Who else could effortlessly put mustaches, heavy makeup, and paper crowns upon their models and somehow pull it all together into a whimsical, fun, show? I was at first averted to this line, I thought it was maybe too over the top without any real structure. But the more I look at this line, the more I can see the shapes and the real thought carefully hidden. Well done Westwood.

Any of my friends know, I love bows. I've stayed up late making huge bows to wear in my hair, I've even cut up an old orchestra uniform to make the perfect red satin bow.

As a result, I've been interested in the concept of bowties, and have seen various DIY versions of bow-tie necklaces and so one. So I gave it my own take! Meet my new little friend. A red-velvet ribbon bow carefully attached to a small gold chain. A longer one is in the works, and it can be perfectly hidden under the collar of a shirt to create a feminine, girly version of the bowtie.

Haircuts

Yesterday I went in for a haircut (after four months! My bangs were monstrously long), and I'm so happy to have my layered, teased cut back. Now that my bangs are out of my eyes, I can properly see myself.

Bonjour!

This blog will be a personal blog, used to post things I like, my own opinions (not only on fashion, but on life, film, and day-to-day things), and my own photography. I'll try to credit anything I post that isn't my own!
